Rain chances creep up as summer front approaches Thursday

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Rain chances are back and set to rise Wednesday through Friday as a summer front approaches Houston.

Gulf moisture will continue to spread through Southeast Texas Wednesday morning, and a few scattered showers are possible while you’re asleep. A few showers could linger into the morning drive, but it will be dry for most. During the heat of the afternoon isolated showers and thunderstorms will pop up. If you find yourself underneath one of these showers or thunderstorms you could pick up a quick half inch of rain.

Afternoon highs will reach into the low 90s even if you are one of the lucky ones to get some rain.

Are there any other chances for rain this week?
Yes! A weak cool front will move into southeast Texas late Thursday and stick around through Friday. There should be enough moisture and instability in the atmosphere to give us a few thunderstorms along with the rain showers. The added clouds and rain may even drop our temps a few degrees. For now we have your chance of rain at 30% both days, but there is room for those rain chances to climb as we gain confidence in the details. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible again Saturday before a heat ridge squashes the rain chance for most of next week.

Is there anything worth watching in the tropics?
We are keeping an eye on the remnants of Agatha. Its moisture is moving over the Gulf of Mexico and could develop into a tropical depression or storm during the first few days of June. All of its rain will stay away from Texas, but it could bring widespread tropical rains to South Florida and the Bahamas. You can learn more about it in our daily tropical update.
