Funerals held for Uvalde students Elijah Torres, Nevaeh Bravo and Maranda Mathis

Three more students slain in the Robb Elementary school mass shooting were laid to rest in Uvalde on Thursday.

Ten-year-olds Elijah Torres and Nevaeh Bravo and 11-year-old Maranda Mathis were three of 21 students and teachers killed last week by an 18-year-old gunman. Services for the victims began Tuesday and are scheduled through mid-June.

Elijah’s service was held Thursday morning at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.

Her family wrote in her obituary that she was “a loving and compassionate person who loved to be silly.”

Elijah loved softball, and was supposed to play in her last game of the season the day of the shooting, her aunt said last week on Facebook. Her family said she loved watching TikTok videos and was known for her beautiful smile.

Elijah “was a master of jests and loved making people laugh,” her obituary reads. “At such a young age, she was nurturing and always putting others before herself.”

She is survived by her parents and four siblings.

Nevaeh Bravo

Nevaeh’s service was held Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Hours after asking for any updates on Nevaeh’s whereabouts last Tuesday, her cousin Emily Grace Ayala posted on Facebook that she was “flying with the angels above.”

“We love you Nevaeh very much princess!” she wrote.

Neveah is survived by her parents and three siblings.

Maranda Mathis

Maranda’s funeral service was held Thursday afternoon at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.

Her family said in her obituary that Maranda had a “huge, loving heart.” She loved unicorns, mermaids and the color purple.

“She was sweet, smart and a shy tomboy who enjoyed being within nature and spending time outdoors,” her obituary says. “Those who knew Maranda, knew her great imagination.”

She is survived by her parents and brother.
