Ex-NA speaker’s brother moves IHC to preempt eviction from Islamabad’s F-9 Park

ISLAMABAD: Brother of former National Assembly speaker on Saturday filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against his likely eviction from a mega entertainment zone and bowling club in F-9 Park which according to the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) was in his illegal possession for the last two years.

The facility, spread over three acres, has become one of the main attractions for visitors to the park, particularly on weekends as there is a swimming pool, bowling club, restaurants, shops, play area and gaming zone.

The Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) of the MCI not only made this accusation but also moved an application to Margalla police station on Wednesday demanding registration of a case against the former NA speaker’s brother Adnan Qaiser and Mohammad Fazal and Co.

According to the DMA, it had leased out the mega zone facility to Liaquat Ali and Co on Nov 29, 2019 for a period of two years.

However, after sometime, the directorate was informed by people in the company that Mr Qaiser and Mohammad Fazal and Co took over the club.

The petition was filed in the IHC by Asad Qaiser’s brother, and his partner Fazal Mehmood.

It said that the Liaquat Ali due to financial constraints sold over 90pc shares of his company to Fazal and other partners. However, he later on backtracked with the agreements of selling the shares and the matter was sub judice before an additional district and sessions judge Mardan.

The petition stated that Adnan Qaiser was a friend of Fazal and owing to this fact, Liaquat soon after ouster of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government filed a complaint with the DMA and subsequently, the latter asked the police for registration of FIR against the petitioners over illegal possession of Park’s land.

The petition went on to state that the IHC earlier on June 3 asked the DMA to provide an opportunity of hearing to the present petitioners. However neither the Directorate nor did the SHO of the police station concerned heard their submissions.

It requested the court to set aside the letter of DMA.
