Here’s when we expect the worst air quality from the Saharan haze

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Saharan haze is turning the sky gray over Houston, and it’s going to get worse before it gets better.

Another large plume will arrive late Wednesday, but it will thin out by Father’s Day weekend. While it’s here, individuals sensitive to the fine dust particles may notice flareups of allergy and asthma symptoms.

Temperatures Tuesday morning will only cool off to around 80 then warm back into the upper 90s during the afternoon. With the dry, dusty air overhead there is no chance for rain.

When is our next chance for rain?
We’ll have to wait until Friday for just a 20% chance for a shower or thunderstorm. The heat ridge will lift to our north allowing moisture to flow in from the east. A weak front approaching Saturday will keep the rain chance at 20%.

How does the weather look for Father’s Day?
HOT! The weak boundary pushing toward us Saturday will blast in some hot, dry air for Father’s Day. We can’t rule out a shower or thunderstorm at this time, but the rain chance for Dad’s special day is less than 20%.

Is there anything worth watching in the tropics?
There is a little disturbance east of Central America with a moderate chance of development, but all of it’s moisture will likely stay south of Texas. You can stay informed on everything happening in the tropics all season long with our daily tropical update.
