Saharan haze expected to blow through on Thursday

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Another thick cloud of Saharan haze is moving through Houston.

It will stick around Thursday and thankfully thin out by Father’s Day weekend.

While it’s here, individuals sensitive to the fine dust particles may notice flareups of allergy and asthma symptoms.

High temperatures today are warming into the mid 90s. With the dry, dusty air overhead there is little hope for rain. The heat index will also be minimal due to the dry air.

When is our next chance for rain?
We’ll have to wait until Friday for just a 20% chance for a shower or thunderstorm. The heat ridge will lift to our north allowing moisture to flow in from the east. A weak front approaching Saturday will keep the rain chance at 20%.

How does the weather look for Father’s Day?
HOT! The weak boundary pushing toward us Saturday will blast in some hot air for Father’s Day. There will still be enough moisture around to warrant a 20% chance for an isolated afternoon downpour.

Is there anything worth watching in the tropics?
There is a little disturbance east of Central America with a low chance of development, but all of it’s moisture will likely stay south of Texas. You can stay informed on everything happening in the tropics all season long with our daily tropical update.
