Another small chance for a stray storm today

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — If you missed the few showers and thunderstorms that popped up Friday, there’s another 20% chance you could get one today.

We’re starting off warm, dry, and mostly clear with lows in the upper 70s. A few isolated showers could pop around Galveston Bay this morning, with another chance for isolated rain and storms in the afternoon and evening. Everyone has a chance of seeing rain today, but only a lucky few will actually get it. This won’t be a drought-buster. If you do get rain, you could pick up a few one-hundredths of an inch.

While the drought won’t get any better over the weekend, the air quality will. The Saharan dust cloud is moving on and bringing some blue back to the sky. Ozone pollution could reach unhealthy levels in some neighborhoods Saturday afternoon, so an Ozone Pollution Watch is in effect.

Are there any other chances for rain?
Rain will be tough to come by in this weather pattern. A massive heat ridge will sit overhead or nearby for the next 10 days, keeping rain chances well below 20% most days. A 20% chance of rain returns next week.

How does the weather look for Father’s Day?
HOT! Dad can expect triple-digit-heat under a mostly sunny sky.

Is there anything worth watching in the tropics?
There is a little disturbance near Central America with a low chance of development, but all of its moisture will likely stay south of Texas. You can stay informed on everything happening in the tropics all season long with our daily tropical update.
