Triple digit heat for the next 5 days of summer

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — An increase in moisture, showers, and clouds kept our temps just below 100 on Tuesday. That’ll change the next several days with drier air moving in.

Temperatures will remain very hot this week with even hotter weather coming this weekend. We will be looking at highs between 100 and 102 through Friday. Get ready for temps in the 103-104 range this weekend. Heat Advisories are likely to be posted during this period and an Excessive Heat Warning might be needed if we make it to 105.

If it’s heating up that much this weekend, how high will the heat index get?
Great question! In order for temperatures in Houston to get to 104 (or hotter) the air must be very dry. Dew points usually drop into the 50s, and that actually makes the heat index read lower than the actual temperature. So assuming we do get that hot this weekend, it will feel more like an oven than a sauna.

What’s the hottest temperature ever recorded in Houston in June?
The hottest June temperature ever recorded in Houston is 107F on the 29th in 2013.

Are there any other chances for rain?
Rain will be tough to come by in this weather pattern. A massive heat ridge will sit overhead through the weekend. The latest data is beginning to hint at a better chance for rain and even cooler temps next week as moisture moves around the area of high pressure and into SE Texas.

Is there anything worth watching in the tropics?
While no development is expected over the next five days, long range indications suggest we could see our first development from a tropical wave deep in the Atlantic the last few days of June. You can stay informed on everything happening in the tropics all season long with our daily tropical update.
