Tarrant County deputy injured during SWAT standoff; person inside home believed dead

A sheriff’s deputy was injured Thursday and a person is dead after a standoff in unincorporated Tarrant County.

Around 9:30 a.m., Tarrant County deputies went to a home in the 500 block of Indian Creek Drive to serve a felony warrant for a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. When they arrived, someone began firing at deputies from multiple sides of the house, the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office said.

A SWAT team was called to the scene and authorities tried to negotiate with the shooter.

The person continued to fire at the officers and appeared to drop “incendiary devices” on the front porch, starting a fire, the sheriff’s office said.

The fire significantly damaged the home, and a body was found inside once it was extinguished. The sheriff’s office believes the body is that of the person who was firing at officers.

The dead person’s identity will be released once next of kin are notified and the medical examiner’s office completes its investigation, the sheriff’s office said.

A Tarrant County sheriff’s deputy was injured during the standoff after being hit by what was possibly shrapnel but is OK, the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office did not identify the person who they attempted to serve the warrant to. It is unclear whether authorities believe the person who shot at them the is the person they were trying to arrest.
