41-year-old at large after teen’s fatal shooting in West Dallas, police say

Police are looking for a 41-year-old man after the slaying of a teenager this week in West Dallas.

Officers were called about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday to the 3300 block of Rutz Street, near Dennison Street, where they found 18-year-old Jose Cruz fatally shot.

Police said Friday that although detectives initially believed the shooting was a suicide, they determined that the wound was not self-inflicted.

Authorities said that Cesar Castro Vasquez was a suspect in the shooting and that they had obtained a warrant for his arrest. They did not say how he was linked to the incident or provide a description of him.

Anyone with information about the shooting may contact Detective Patty Belew at 214-422-9275 or patty.belew@dallascityhall.com and refer to case No. 111741-2022.
