Highest rainfall totals expected to miss Houston off to the east

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A Flash Flood Watch is now in effect from Houston to the coast, but the highest rain totals are likely to fall east of Houston on Friday.

This new low pressure center that spun up over Galveston Bay will push the deepest moisture toward Beaumont and Lake Charles. Locally this will put the highest risk for street flooding over Chambers and Liberty Counties.

Houston will be on the drier side of the low. Scattered thunderstorms are still possible for Houstonians, especially Friday morning, but some Houston-area neighborhoods might completely miss the rain. Temperatures will start off in the low 70s then rebound into the mid 80s. Where it does rain, most of the day could be spent in the 70s.
Will the rain be heavy enough for flooding?
Our drought stricken dry soil should do a good job of keeping most areas from flooding. However, isolated street flooding will be possible Friday morning where the heaviest storms track.

What’s in store for the weekend?
There will be enough moisture for scattered thunderstorms to pop up Saturday afternoon. Your chance for rain is 40%. Temperatures will peak around 90 with more sunshine in the forecast. Sunday’s rain chance will drop to 20%, and with even less clouds in the sky temperatures will warm toward the mid 90s.
