Man shot by Fort Worth police threatened family with gun, police allege

A man who was shot by police reportedly brought a gun to a Fort Worth home, threatened family members and led officers in a pursuit, according to 911 calls and police video released Friday.

Alejandro Molina Cornelio, 31, remains in critical condition after the Wednesday-night shooting. He faces three counts of aggravated assault, Fort Worth police said in a video statement.

Officers were called to a domestic-violence incident about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at a home in the 3200 block of Olive Place.

In a 911 call released by police, a woman told a dispatcher that her brother was outside with a gun and threatening his wife, who was staying at the home. Seven kids and multiple adults were in the house, the woman said.

The woman, sounding panicked, told the dispatcher the man was trying to break down the front door and then forced his way inside.

Witnesses told police the man pointed his gun at multiple people inside the home before fleeing, Assistant Chief Robert Alldredge said in the video.

Officers pursued the man’s truck, and the man reportedly made phone calls to family members threatening to kill his wife and himself while driving back toward the home, Alldredge said.

As the man neared Olive Place, dash-camera footage showed a pursuing police vehicle ramming into the truck.

An officer inside the police vehicle can be heard saying, “I’m going to ram him if he goes in there” as the truck attempts to turn onto a street where another police vehicle is blocking the road.

Gunfire could be heard in the background and multiple officers yelled “shots fired.” The man’s truck comes to a stop against a police vehicle.

It was unclear how many officers shot at the man or whether the man fired at police.

The children and adults in the home were unharmed and no police officers were injured, Alldredge said.

The names of the officers involved in the shooting have not been released, and an investigation is ongoing.
