Grass fire in DeSoto that led to evacuations now under control

A wildfire south of Dallas that led to evacuations Sunday afternoon is fully under control.

Shortly before 1 p.m., emergency crews were notified of a fire near Keswick Drive in DeSoto, said Matt Smith, a spokesman for the city. The city is located about 16 miles south of Dallas.

Residents in the neighboring Cedar Hill evacuated but no one from DeSoto had to leave the area.

The fire, which burned at least 250 acres, is believed to have started in a field, Smith said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

No injuries related to the fire were reported, a news release from DeSoto said.

Shortly before 3:15 p.m., Cedar Hill police said precautionary evacuations were underway because of the fire, which was moving east to west near East Belt Line and South Duncanville roads.

Around 4:45 p.m., the Cedar Hill police said evacuated residents could return home.

It is unclear how many Cedar Hill residents evacuated.///

Portions of Beltline Road will be temporarily closed from Waterford Oaks Road in Cedar Hill to Cold Water Drive in DeSoto, according to the news release. Duncanville Road will be closed from Parkerville Road to Beltline Road.

Fire departments from Dallas, DeSoto, Duncanville, Cedar Hill, Lancaster, Ovilla and Midlothian responded to the fire.
