Near-record heat for Houston as we monitor Gulf disturbance for rain

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A Heat Advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. Tuesday, and it will likely be extended into Wednesday.

Temperatures will start off in the low 80s, and a pop-up shower or thunderstorm is possible near sunrise. It will be mostly dry during the daylight hours as temperatures again soar into the the triple digits. Factor in the humidity and it will feel like it’s around 110. Isolated downpours are possible in the late afternoon and early evening hours.

Will we get any heat relief this week?
Yes, but it won’t last very long. It will still be blazing hot through Wednesday with more triple-digit heat, but a low-pressure system in the Gulf will bring back clouds and rain chances Wednesday night and Thursday. This will also drop our highs into the mid 90s for a day or so.

How much rain could we get?
Where it does rain, a solid inch will be common. Isolated higher amounts are possible, especially in our coastal counties. The storms will be scattered Thursday, so some of us won’t get any rain at all. More than likely the highest accumulations will stay well to our east from Louisiana to Florida.
Is there anything worth watching in the tropics?

We are monitoring the low pressure system in the northern Gulf of Mexico that is being highlighted by the National Hurricane Center for a low chance of tropical development. Where this low forms and tracks will ultimately determine whether we get rain or more scorching heat for the weekend. For the very latest check out our daily tropical update.
