1 dead, 1 seriously injured after flames engulf Collin County home

One person was killed and a 55-year-old woman was seriously injured after flames engulfed a Collin County home Saturday morning.

About 6:45 a.m., the Collin County Sheriff’s Office, Blue Ridge Fire Department and Westminster Fire Department responded to a home in the 13600 block of Lackey Drive, near County Road 623 about 15 miles northeast of McKinney.

When they arrived, they found the home “fully engulfed in flames” and a 55-year-old woman who had suffered “significant injuries” was outside. She was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive, the sheriff’s office said.

Firefighters worked for hours to contain the fire, but the home was destroyed.

A person was found dead inside and the body was turned over to the Collin County medical examiner, where investigators are working to identify the person, the sheriff’s office said.

The Collin County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
