Dallas police shoot, critically injure man after drug deal in Lake Highlands

Dallas police shot and critically wounded a man in Lake Highlands Wednesday evening, Chief Eddie García said.

The shooting happened about 11:30 p.m. in at a gas station in the 13000 block of Jupiter Road, just south of Interstate 635. Earlier in the night, García said police witnessed a drug deal in the gas station’s parking lot. Police tried to pull over one of the cars involved in the transaction, but lost sight after the car fled.

“A short time later,” authorities said, the car returned to the gas station and the driver went inside. While officers tried taking the man in custody, authorities said a fight broke out and the man pulled a gun from his waistband.

An officer shot and wounded the man, police said. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition. No officers were injured

Authorities have not identified the man who was shot. The shooting is under investigation.
