3rd man arrested in slaying of former OU football player in downtown Dallas

A third man has been arrested in the death of a former University of Oklahoma football player at a downtown Dallas apartment.

John Williams, 31, faces a charge of capital murder in the slaying of 25-year-old Du’Vonta Lampkin. It’s unclear whether he has an attorney.

Police did not say how they connected Williams to the slaying.

Officers were called the evening of May 5 to an apartment in the 500 block of South Ervay Street and found Lampkin dead from a single gunshot wound.

Police said the unit was a rental that Lampkin was staying in before moving to a new apartment. He was scheduled to check out the next day.

Last week, police arrested two men, 22-year-old Antwan Franklin and 24-year-old Erick Garcia, in Lampkin’s slaying. Each faces a charge of capital murder.

Police alleged in an arrest-warrant affidavit that Franklin was friends with Lampkin and set up the fatal robbery.

Williams is being held in the Dallas County jail. His bail had not been set Friday evening.

Lampkin played in 15 games as a defensive tackle for the Oklahoma Sooners from 2015 to 2017. He signed with the Tennessee Titans in 2018 as an undrafted free agent.
