Rain, relief from triple-digit-heat on the way to Houston

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Rain chances are going up as the weekend approaches. A disturbance near Louisiana will start moving our way Thursday and bring widely scattered downpours by Friday afternoon.

Thursday will start off very warm and dry with temperatures around 80. Sunshine will warm temperatures into the low 100s before showers and thunderstorms help cool off some Houston area neighborhoods. These downpours could bring a quick 1″ of rain, frequent lightning, and wind gusts over 40 mph.

How much rain could that Louisiana disturbance bring us?

If you do get rain from it, you’ll likely pick up less than an inch, but there could be a few neighborhoods that pick up 1-3″ of rain.

What’s the outlook for the weekend?

The disturbance bringing up our rain chance Friday will still be close enough to put rain chances at 40% for Saturday. By Sunday the rain chance is down to 30%. Both days we expect lows in the upper 70s and highs in the mid 90s.

Is there anything worth watching in the tropics?

Another large Saharan dust cloud is moving across the Atlantic Ocean, which is keeping the Atlantic quiet. But! We are heading into the peak months of the Atlantic hurricane season so it’s possible we could see activity ramping up within the next few weeks.
