Triple digit heat wave continues

A Heat Advisory is in effect for most of North Texas through 8 p.m. today.

Air temperatures could go as high as 105 with a heat index reaching 107 in spots again this afternoon. In addition, south winds will gust over 20 mph at times leading to a continued elevated fire threat.

Rain chances will remain absent from the forecast through the weekend. An upper level ridge of high pressure will remain anchored in place, keeping the weather relatively unchanged. However, a weakening of the ridge next week may allow for a drop in temperatures and a slight chance of storms next Tuesday and Wednesday.

On average, August produces more triple-digit days in DFW and is the second driest month behind July. Something to look forward to is the fact the normal temperatures begin to decrease in mid August as the atmosphere begins to react to the decreasing daylight.
