Rain chances are down but not out, and they go back up by Thursday

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Our rain chance is going down but not out Sunday, and in just a few days it will go right back up.

The disturbance that brought widespread showers and thunderstorms the past couple of days has moved on, which will drop our rain chance down to 30% for Sunday afternoon. Temperatures will start in the mid 70s and warm into the mid 90s, which is seasonal for early August.

What is the rain outlook for the week ahead?

Not bad! We have a 30% chance of rain in the forecast each afternoon through Wednesday. It will still get hot in the mid 90s, but the scattered downpours will help cool things down. A larger disturbance rotating around the heat ridge will reach us Thursday to bring even higher rain chances. As an added bonus, highs will have a tough time climbing out of the 80s while it’s around Thursday and Friday. None of this rain will bust the drought, but it should keep it from getting worse.

What’s happening in the tropics?

The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a tropical wave about to leave Africa. It currently has a medium chance for development. For the very latest check out our daily tropical update.
