Scattered storms this weekend, drought-relieving rains coming next week

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — We saw some very beneficial downpours this afternoon and evening but it did leave some roads with ponding and minor flooding. Rain chances continue throughout the week so we will have to be on the watch for more flooding issues.

Deep moisture will continue to get pumped in Sunday especially as Potential Storm Four moves into Mexico overnight. We should see isolated to widely scattered storms popping up in the morning before becoming a bit more widespread in the afternoon. Isolated rain totals could exceed 2″ and lead to street flooding, so make sure you stay weather aware before hitting the road.

Temperatures will manage to warm from the mid 70s to the low 90s before cooling back into the 80s once the scattered storms pass through Houston.

What’s this I hear about even more rain next week?

All that tropical moisture from Potential Storm Four will collide with a developing low-pressure system that will sit and spin over Texas for most of next week. This low-pressure system has the potential to bring widespread drought-relieving rains to Texas. Several inches of rain are possible over the week, so river flooding will be possible, especially in the eastern half of Texas. The highest rain totals are expected in North Texas, but a respectable 2″-5″ will be widespread in Southeast Texas.
