See ya later, alligator: Lake Worth police called about 3.5-foot reptile at ATM

Lake Worth police were in for a surprise Wednesday night when they responded to a call for service at an ATM.

The department said on Twitter that officers were dispatched after a woman reported hearing a hissing sound while getting money from one of the kiosks.

When officers arrived, they found a 3.5-foot alligator next to one of the machines.

A game warden with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department responded and helped subdue the alligator.

Police said the reptile was relocated to an “appropriate habitat” nearby.

The department encouraged residents who see dangerous animals or animals in distress to call Lake Worth police at 817-237-1224.

Up to half a million gators live in Texas, experts say, and although most of them are in the southern and eastern parts of the state it’s not unheard of to see one in North Texas.
