Rowlett man sentenced to 60 years for filming himself molesting young girl

A Rowlett man who filmed himself molesting a young girl numerous times was sentenced Thursday to 60 years in federal prison.

Mark Alan Miller, 35, was indicted in June 2020 and pleaded guilty in March to two counts of production of child pornography, the U.S. attorney’s office for the Northern District of Texas said.

On Jan. 12, 2020, officers were dispatched to the girl’s home after her father walked in on Miller, who was a family friend, raping his 9-year-old daughter.

Her father told police Miller was staying with them at the time, and when he heard a noise and didn’t find Miller in the living room where he had been sleeping, he rushed to his daughter’s room, the U.S. attorney’s office said.

Her father held a gun on Miller until officers arrived.

According to the U.S. attorney’s office, Miller “immediately confessed” to police he had been sexually touching the girl for years, describing their relationship as “a little too close.”

The girl was taken to the hospital and then to the Rockwall Children’s Advocacy Center, where she confirmed Miller had raped her on multiple occasions, along with photographing her genitals and showing her the photos, the U.S. attorney’s office said.

When police asked Miller about the photos, the U.S. attorney’s office said he admitted to producing child pornography, and a forensic analysis of his electronic devices revealed he had produced at least five videos and 132 images involving the girl dating back two years, to when she was 7.

At Thursday’s sentencing hearing, the U.S. attorney’s office said a Rockwall police forensic analyst testified that Miller’s electronic devices contained more than 8,000 sexually explicit images of other children.

Further testimony revealed Miller even used a revealing image of the young girl as his screen saver.
