Driver killed when his car crashed into a big rig on Katy Fwy, police said

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — All lanes of the I-10 Katy Freeway eastbound at Dairy Ashford were closed for a time after a driver crashed into a big rig on Tuesday.

The crash happened at about 11:50 a.m. at 12700 Katy Freeway. Police said a man driving a blue Hyundai Elantra failed to stay in a lane and crashed into an 18-wheeler.

The driver of the Hyundai was pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the driver of the Freightliner truck was not injured and remained at the scene.

The crash had shut down the eastbound lanes of the freeway for multiple hours, but in a 5 p.m. update, all lanes were back open.

An investigation is ongoing into the crash.
