2 arrested; gun, 60-round magazine recovered after threat to Everman football game

Two people were arrested and a gun with a 60-round magazine was recovered near the Everman High School football stadium following a threat to Friday night’s homecoming game, authorities say.

According to the Everman Police Department, an off-duty deputy with the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office received a “credible tip” someone was on the way to the game “with the intent of using a firearm” they had obtained earlier that day

The game started about 7 p.m. at J.E. Marr Stadium near South Race Street and Oak Grove Shelby Road.

“It is evident that this individual was coming to do harm,” the department wrote on Facebook.

Officers found a car matching the suspect’s vehicle description traveling southbound on Race Street and conducted a “high-risk stop” that ended at the gate of the stadium’s east entrance, police said.

Three people inside the car were detained — a 17-year-old, an 18-year-old and a 10-year-old.

An “AR pistol” and 60-round magazine were also recovered from the car, police said.

The 10-year-old was released to a parent, but the 18 and 17-year-old were arrested and each face a charge of unlawful carrying of a firearm in prohibited places, according to the sheriff’s office.

The office declined to identify them, citing the ongoing investigation.

No additional information was immediately available.
