Man found guilty of capital murder in slaying of woman at Garland home

A 21-year-old man was found guilty Friday of fatally shooting a woman at her daughter’s home in Garland.

Kvaughandre Lapaul Presley was convicted of capital murder in the death of 60-year-old Patricia Eifert. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole. Prosecutors didn’t seek the death penalty.

Testimony in Presley’s trial began Tuesday in a Dallas County courtroom.

Joseph Bryant, Eifert’s son-in-law, testified that he came home about 7 p.m. on July 27, 2021, to find Eifert on the living-room floor covered in blood. He said Eifert was fixing broken drawers in the master bathroom and was alone in the home in the 700 block of Briar Way when the shooting happened.

Prosecutors said Presley and his girlfriend, Gabriela Liliana Torres, 22, slipped in through the open garage to burglarize the home. Surveillance video showed two people approach the home. Minutes later, one person ran from the garage and rummaged through Eifert’s car before both people got in a different car and drove off.

Camera footage from a nearby home captured loud pops, which police testified were gunshots.

Heath Harris, Presley’s lawyer, argued there was no evidence that placed his client inside the home.

Garland forensic investigators said at least eight shell casings, seven bullets and several bullet fragments were found in the house.

Torres also is charged with capital murder. Her case is pending.
