Aimal cancels visit to Edwardes College at teachers’ request

CHARSADDA: Awami National Party provincial president Aimal Wali Khan has cancelled his proposed visit to the Edwardes College, Peshawar, after a jirga of the college teachers requested him to call it off.

The jirga members led by college’s vice-principal called on the ANP leader at Wali Bagh here on Monday.

Aimal Wali accepted the jirga’s requests and announced to postpone the visit. On the occasion, he said he respected the teachers as they were the builders of the nation.

He said the jirga of respected teachers was accepted in line with the Pakhtun traditions.

Aimal Wali said he would soon meet the students of Edwardes College and the date would be announced after consultation with the party colleagues.

Referring to a visit to the college by PTI chief and former prime minister Imran Khan, Aimal Wali said no student or any other person could agree with the “nonsense” that the self-proclaimed leader said and did at the Edwardes College.

He pointed out that the provincial government had also decided to take action against the students and teachers, who did not attend the PTI leader’s address, adding this would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

“We also thank all the teachers and students, who raised their voice for truth and stood with us to oppose Imran Khan’s visit,” he said.

The jirga thanked the ANP leader for accepting their request to postpone visit to the college.
