There’s a glimmer of hope for rain next week

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Burn bans continue to increase over southeast Texas, but we may get some rain late next week to offer relief from the recent weeks of dry weather.

Temperatures Thursday morning will start off around 60-degrees under a mostly clear sky. High clouds will be on the increase during the day Thursday, but high temperatures will still manage to top out near 90.

Ragweed pollen will remain extremely high, and we are also under another Ozone Pollution Watch for the afternoon.

When does our next front arrive?

Our next cool front will arrive late Friday and blow in slightly drier air for the weekend. Rain chances look slim with this one, but we’re leaving in a 20% chance for isolated showers on Friday mainly southwest of Houston.

How cool will it get for the weekend?

It actually won’t get that much cooler behind the front. It’s a weak one with mainly a push of drier air. Morning lows will dip into the lower and middle 60s while highs still top out around 90.

What are the chances we get some rain next week?

At this time we have 30%-40% rain chances in the forecast from Wednesday through Friday. We’re more confident that a surge of tropical moisture will come in from the Gulf of Mexico, and that alone will be enough to bring scattered downpours back to the sky. We are less confident on whether or not a stronger cool front will come in and collide with that tropical moisture. For now, we still have a front penciled in for next Thursday.

What’s happening in the tropics?

We’re a tropical low in the Caribbean that could become the season’s next hurricane. It will likely track into Central America, but there is a chance some of its tropical moisture could eventually get into the southwest Gulf of Mexico and head to Texas.
