Two fronts bring two opportunities for rain

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — We need some rain to help push back the drought that’s rebuilding across Southeast Texas, and a couple of cool fronts coming our way might just do the trick.

Tuesday will start pleasant with temperatures bottoming out in the lower 60s. The Gulf breeze will push humidity levels higher in the afternoon, bringing back a partly cloudy sky and a slight heat index as highs top out in the upper 80s. The atmosphere will still be too dry to support any meaningful rain chances.

Ragweed pollen remains extremely high and will likely remain there until we can get some rain to help wash the pollen away.

What are the chances we get some rain this week?

Our first opportunity comes Wednesday a the atmosphere moistens up ahead of a front arriving Thursday morning. The sea breeze front will become active Wednesday afternoon to bring scattered downpours. Then as the front blows in late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning a line of scattered showers and thunderstorms could push through.

After Thursday, the next chance for rain will come Sunday and Monday as a stronger cold front pushes into Texas at the same time a Pacific storms blows in from the west. If the Pacific storms arrives as scheduled, it should bring widespread showers and thunderstorms to Texas. Once it clears out, we should enjoy some delightful fall days with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s!
