KARACHI: Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Pechucho on Tuesday said three months are needed to drain out floodwater from the affected areas of the province.
Addressing a press conference in Karachi, Azra Pechuho said the Sindh government cannot give an exact date on which the flood victims can be rehabilitated and added that phase-wise return of the flood victims to their houses has begun.
People are being shifted to the areas where the floodwater level has dropped down, the minister said. The government is also providing rations to the people.
On the increasing cases of dengue, the Sindh health minister said the province has reported 44 deaths due to the mosquito-borne infection in the current year. The number of deaths is higher in Karachi, she added.
There are 7.4 million displaced in Sindh and the Sindh Government and Health Department have managed to treat 3.9 million till now, Pechucho said.
She said that there will be technical support needed in addition to the other support being provided by international donors as this climate change emergency will be a regular occurrence and we need to be prepared for all possibilities.
