SMU police arrest driver accused of sexually assaulting passenger

Southern Methodist University police arrested a driver accused of sexually assaulting a passenger on campus early Friday.

Anselmo Amil Contreras, 50, was booked into the Dallas County jail on a sexual assault charge. It was unclear whether he had an attorney.

About 2:20 a.m. Friday, university police responded to a report of sexual assault in the 3100 block of Daniel Avenue in University Park.

The woman told officers she was sexually assaulted by the man who had driven her to campus, SMU said. She notified family members who later saw the driver’s car and flagged down a Dallas police officer, the university said.

That officer followed the car to a location on Greenville Avenue and detained the driver. SMU police then arrested him.

SMU police are continuing to investigate. The university did not say for which ride-hailing company the suspect was working.

Contreras remained in custody Friday night, and his bail had not been set.
