A fall cold front is moving through the area today

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Today is the day that our wait is official over. A fall front is moving through SE Texas this morning!

Along and behind the front, we should see scattered rain. The bulk of the rain will hold northwest of the Houston area, but scattered downpours are possible area-wide through the morning. This rain will become more isolated in the afternoon with just light showers possible. The best chances for rain in the afternoon will stay along the coast. Cooler air will filter in especially late Monday into Tuesday morning as gusty northerly winds drag it in. Wind gusts are expected to be between 20-25 mph today.

How much rain are we expecting Monday?

Overall rain totals will be on the modest side with most areas seeing .5″ or less and unfortunately some of us will miss out on the rain entirely. The exception being locations north and west of Harris County, where some drought-stricken areas could pick up an inch or more of rain.

How cool will it get behind this front?

Monday’s highs should top out in the mid to upper 70s. Clouds and rain should clear out late Monday which should bring us some delightful fall days with highs in the 60s and 70s and lows in the 40s and 50s! The last time Houston recorded a low in the 40s was April 9th. Temperatures slowly heat back up late this week into next weekend as our winds shift back in from the south.

What’s happening in the tropics?

No new tropical development is expected in the Atlantic over the next 5 days. For the very latest check out our daily tropical update.
