1 man dead, another critically wounded in east Oak Cliff shooting

One man was killed and another critically wounded in a shooting in east Oak Cliff late Friday.

About 10:55 p.m., Dallas police responded to a shooting at a gas station at the corner of South Corinth Street Road and Morrell Avenue, where they found two men with gunshot wounds in a vehicle.

The men were taken to a hospital, where one of them died, police said. His name has not been released pending next-of-kin notification.

The second victim was in critical condition, police said.

Taurus Batts, who turned 31 on Saturday, was arrested on charges of murder and aggravated assault in connection with the shooting, as well as an unrelated family-violence assault charge, jail records show. His bail had not been set Saturday afternoon, and it was unclear whether he had an attorney.

Police were continuing to investigate the motive and circumstances of the shooting.
