Plano Police arrest suspect for vandalism of police vehicles

Plano Police have arrested a suspect wanted in connection with damaging five police vehicles parked at the substation on K Avenue.

The suspect allegedly smashed the rear and side windows of clearly marked Plano Police squads with a blunt force object, according to police. The damage was estimated at more than $5,000.

Police used surveillance footage, and a partial license plate number to locate a suspect vehicle, the department stated on social media.

Police said that the vehicle was linked to a suspect who was arrested days prior for public intoxication.

“This was unquestionably a targeted attack on police in retaliation for a lawful arrest,” police stated in a Facebook post.

The charges and suspect’s name were not immediately released by police.

On 10/17/22 0215 hrs an unknown subject, later identified, entered into the parking lot, without provocation, and began to smash the rear and side windows of several clearly marked Plano Police squads with a blunt force object. This resulted in the damage of five separate police vehicles in excess of $5,000. On this date, Ofc Henderson arrived for work and discovered the extensive damage to the vehicles in the parking lot. Ofc Henderson singlehandedly took over the scene as it was processed by CSI E. Grimshaw. Ofc Henderson then took the appropriate steps to ensure that each vehicle was sent off to be repaired and back in-service prior to the other NPOs returning for duty. After having secured the initial scene, Ofc Henderson began to track down the suspect who had caused the damage. Using surveillance footage, and with the assistance of CSI W. Meyer, Ofc Henderson was able to locate a suspect vehicle and partial license plate. Working in conjunction with Stephanie Anderson in CIC, Ofc Henderson was able to identify the vehicle. As Ofc Henderson continued his investigation, he discovered that the vehicle was related to a suspect who had been arrested for public intoxication by Plano PD only days prior. This helped Ofc Henderson to not only develop a possible suspect, but also a motive. As Ofc Henderson worked diligently throughout this investigation, he utilized the relationships he’s built with those in his neighborhood to locate additional evidence and affirm the identity of his suspect. Once Ofc Henderson had positively identified his person of interest, he learned that the subject had recently been in a vehicle pursuit with another agency. It was found that the suspect had evaded and then intentionally drove donuts in front of agency squads. That agency had to ultimately spike the suspect’s tires as he drove donuts, and due to his erratic behavior, the suspect was taken into protective custody. With the assistance of Ofc Benjamin, Ofc Henderson learned where the suspect was being held. Working quickly, and with the assistance of Ofc Buckley, Garcia, and Ha, Ofc Henderson was able to contact the the suspect prior to his release. While at the location, Ofc Henderson, with the assistance of Det Dudeck, Mirandized the suspect and obtained a full confession. This was unquestionably a targeted attack on police in retaliation for a lawful arrest. The outstanding police work performed by Ofc Henderson, and those who assisted him, ensured that a criminal with this type of aggressive mindset toward police was swiftly taken off the streets. Ofc Henderson’s exceptional investigative skills, combined with his resourceful use of the relationships he has built as an NPO should be recognized and commended as a result of this high-quality investigation and prompt arrest.
