Police investigating attempted murder-suicide at Motel 6 in Design District

An investigation was opened after a woman fatally shot herself in a barricaded Dallas motel room Wednesday morning as police were trying to get in.

Officers responded around 11:40 a.m. to a shooting at a Motel 6 in the 2000 block of Market Center Boulevard, according to a Dallas Police news release.

A woman had called 911 and told dispatchers she shot a man in a room at the motel, the release said.

When officers arrived, the woman and man were still inside the room.

The SWAT team responded to the scene after the woman refused to leave the room, the release said, and as officers tried to enter they heard several gunshots.

Once they were able to get inside, they fond both people with gunshot wounds.

The woman, who has not yet been publicly identified, was pronounced dead at the scene with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The man was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing and is being investigated by the Special Investigations Unit as a death in custody.
