A major weather change arrives on Veterans Day

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A major weather change is coming Friday, but first we have a couple more warm, humid days in the forecast.

Dense fog will again be possible Wednesday morning, especially west and southwest of Houston. A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until 9 a.m. for Colorado, Wharton, Fort Bend, Jackson, Matagorda, and Brazoria Counties

Once the fog lifts, you can expect a partly cloudy sky. Temperatures will drop into the mid 60s, about 10 degrees warmer than average. High temperatures will similarly run about 10 degrees above average and peak in the mid 80s, a few degrees shy of record highs.

How long does this warm, humid air stick around?

It will remain over Houston until our next cold front arrives Friday morning for Veterans Day.

What can we expect from the cold front on Veterans Day?

This front should pass through mostly dry at first, but showers and thunderstorms will develop behind the front, especially in the late afternoon and evening. It will usher in a period of sweater weather that will last through most of next week. Disturbances blowing over the top of the cold air will also bring more opportunities for rain next week. Lows will be in the 40s with highs in the 50s and 60s.

What’s happening in the tropics?

Tropical Storm Nicole is strengthening near the Bahamas, and the National Hurricane Center forecasts Nicole to make landfall in Florida as a hurricane Wednesday night. Widespread impacts are expected for Florida and the Southeast U.S. For the very latest, check out our daily tropical update.
