Over 1,500 Highway Patrol personnel deployed for security in four Punjab districts

RAWALPINDI: As many as 1,542 personnel of Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) along with officers have been sent to four districts of Punjab — including Gujrat, Jhelum, Attock and IGP Reserves — to ensure that security arrangements are in place during the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) long march.

A directive issued by additional inspector general of police (PHP) to divisional police chiefs stated that a total of 1,542 PHP personnel have been allocated to district Gujrat, Jhelum and Attock for security.

Of the 1,542 PHP personnel, 500 shall be kept at Gujrat Police Lines as IGP Reserve as long as the long march is in the jurisdiction of Gujrat Region to tackle any emergency situation. Afterwards, the force shall shift to Jhelum and Rawalpindi to assist the local police for the same.

Out of 1,542 PHP personnel, 242 have been deployed in Gujarat, 500 in Jhelum and 300 in Attock.

The accommodation, food and other welfare arrangements for standby personnel shall be made by districts concerned.
