Here’s when temps drop nearly 30 degrees on Veterans Day

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A major weather change is coming Friday when a cold front blasts through Southeast Texas.

Veterans day starts off mild and humid with the potential for patchy dense fog. Temperatures will warm to near 80 as we head into the early afternoon. The first half of the day will be mostly dry, but rain chances will steadily climb during the afternoon as the cold front approaches, and those rain chances will climb even more after the cold front has passed. Some of the stronger thunderstorms could even produce hail up to quarter-size in diameter.

The cold front will push through Houston during the late afternoon, and within a couple of hours the temperatures will fall over 20 degrees. By late in the evening it will be closer to 50 after registering a high around 80. Anyone heading outside Friday evening will need to be prepared for cold, wet, and windy weather.

How will this cold front impact the weekend?

It will be cold and breezy all weekend, but it should be dry! After a cold, cloudy, breezy start in the 40s on Saturday, the sun will come out and warm temperatures to near 60. Most of the afternoon will be spend in the 50s. Sunday morning will be even colder under a mostly clear sky. Lows will dip into the upper 30s and low 40s across most of Southeast Texas.

Will the cold air stick around?

Yes, for all of next week! Another cold front will blow in on Monday, and this one is likely to bring another round of showers and thunderstorms, some of which could be severe. Behind this front, even colder air will pour in, keeping highs in the 50s and pushing lows into the 30s by the end of the week. It’s even possible for the freeze line to make an early appearance in Southeast Texas.
