Man dies after being shot by Fort Worth officer outside convenience store, police say

A Fort Worth officer fatally shot a man when they exchanged gunfire outside of a QuikTrip early Wednesday, according to the department.

Around 12:40 a.m., officers responded to several 911 calls about a person with a weapon at the convenience store in the 2500 block of Northeast 28th Street.

“Details were given to officers en route that a male was walking back and fourth inside the store with a gun in his hand,” a Fort Worth Police Department news release said.

A few minutes after officers arrived, the man walked out the store with a handgun and “immediately started firing his weapon toward officers,” the release said.

Officers shot back and struck the man.

They performed “life-saving measures” until medical personnel arrived to take him to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to the release. His identity has not yet been released.

An investigation into the shooting is ongoing and more information is expected to be released in the coming days.
