Fort Worth officer arrested in off-duty domestic violence incident, police say

An off-duty Fort Worth police officer was suspended from the job Monday after he was arrested in Tarrant County.

Officers with the Saginaw Police Department responded to a domestic violence incident and arrested Derek Maly, 30, according to Fort Worth police. It was unclear if he had an attorney.

Around 3:40 a.m. Monday, Saginaw officers responded to a home in the 1100 block of Parkhill Drive. Maly’s wife told police he had assaulted her, a department news release said.

After interviews with both parties, Maly was arrested and faced a charge of assault causing bodily injury of a family member.

Maly was placed on restricted duty and stripped of all police powers pending the outcome of criminal and administrative investigations, the department said.

He has been with the department for one year and was assigned to the Patrol Bureau.

This arrest comes after a long string of firings within the Fort Worth department involving other officer arrests or misconduct, including four in the last couple months.
