SWAT standoff in North Richland Hills ends ‘peacefully’; suspect in custody, police say

A SWAT standoff in a North Richland Hills residential area that started Wednesday afternoon has ended “peacefully” after the man surrendered to authorities, police said.

Jerrell Street was closed in both directions from Charles Street to Rufe Snow Drive, and authorities also blocked off Bonzer Street because of the incident earlier in the day.

Shortly before noon, officers were dispatched in response to a “domestic situation” at the 6500 block of Jerrell Street, said Carissa Katekaru, a spokeswoman for North Richland Hills police. North Richland Hills is about 10 miles northeast of Fort Worth.

SWAT was called in about 1 p.m. after the man, whom police have not identified, barricaded himself inside a house, Katekaru said. Police said they believed weapons were inside the house.

The department tweeted around 4:30 p.m. that the standoff had ended and that the man was arrested. They did not say what charges he may face.
