McKinney gives 3 families keys to newly built homes as part of rehab program

Three McKinney families have keys to their newly built homes just in time for Christmas.

City officials on Tuesday held ribbon-cutting ceremonies for two of the homes, built as part of a housing rehabilitation and reconstruction program. Another family received their keys on Dec. 16.

“These homes were too damaged to repair, so the city demolished and rebuilt them. Construction took longer than anticipated due to material shortages in the construction industry, but the city is excited that they will all be home for Christmas,” officials said in a news release.

More than 60 families have been helped through the city program. Families can seek help with a down payment, closing costs, rental assistance, home rehabilitation or reconstruction. The program is offered through a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) with funds awarded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
