Two Plano teachers recognized as ‘teachers on the rise’

Two Plano teachers were named as winners of the Market Street and Mrs. Baird’s Teachers on the Rise program, the school district stated in an announcement.

They were chosen from among nominations from students and families across North Texas who believe their teacher’s efforts to go above and beyond are worthy of special recognition.

The winners, announced for the month of November, are Gina Karnes of Mitchell Elementary School and Deana Reed of Plano East Senior High School.

Since 2021, more than 30 North Texas educators have been honored by the program.

“We know there are many teachers in our classrooms who deserve recognition, and we look forward to receiving many more nominations throughout the school year, Shane Sumrow, director of Teachers on the Rise, said in a prepared statement.

Winners receive a $100 Market Street gift card, $100 American Express gift card and a gift basket full of Mrs. Baird’s products.

Additionally, students who nominate a winning teacher also receive a $50 American Express gift card.
