Fort Worth police officer arrested on child sex abuse charge

A Fort Worth officer was arrested Thursday after a months-long investigation into the sexual abuse of a minor.

Fort Worth police responded to a report of a sexual assault Nov. 2 and determined the suspect in the incident was an officer with their Central Patrol Division, according to the department.

Raymond Lara, 28, was placed on restricted duty as administrative and criminal investigations were launched.

On Tuesday, Fort Worth police obtained an arrest warrant for Lara, who was booked into the Fort Worth jail on one count of continuous sexual abuse of a young child, the department said. His bail had not been set, and it was unclear whether he had an attorney.

Police did not release any additional information about the case.

Lara had been with the department for three years at the time of his arrest, according to the department.
