Man taken into custody after spending a day atop crane in West Dallas

Traffic was backed up most of the day Monday in West Dallas as dozens of police and fire personnel responded to a call at a construction site about a man atop a crane, blocking off nearby streets.

Officers, including the SWAT team, responded to the 1000 block of Singleton Boulevard around 7:30 a.m., according to police.

A man was standing on a crane at the site, about 150 feet in the air. Police said they negotiated with the man throughout the day and into the night, stopping when storms moved through the area.

He was taken into custody shortly before 8 a.m. Tuesday, more than 24 hours after the incident began. Police said he had a self-inflicted cut on his abdomen and was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

No charges have been filed, and police did not identify the man.
