The estranged husband of a woman has been jailed in connection with her death, Royse City police said Friday.
Police arrested Corey Wayne Griffin, 36, on a murder charge in the death of his wife. After the woman was killed at her home Thursday, police said district schools were placed on a “soft lockdown” for a brief period while officers secured her children.
It is unclear whether Griffin has an attorney.
A little after noon Thursday, officers responded to a home in the 2500 block of Perdenales Drive, near San Marcos Drive, for a welfare check. Once police entered the home, they noticed signs of a struggle including broken glass and overturned furniture.
Officers found the body of a woman in the kitchen. Police later identified her as 37-year-old Chelsie Griffin.
Police said they identified Corey Griffin, the victim’s estranged husband, as a suspect and arrested him in Rockwall.
Corey Griffin remained in the Rockwall County jail Friday, and his bail had not been set.
Court records show he was arrested Feb. 8 on a harassment charge and later released on bond, but details about that case were not immediately available.
