Cool tonight, but Sunday will be much warmer

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — The last couple of days have been chilly, but the warmer weather is set to make a return. We’ll be chilly tonight with many areas in the 40s overnight, but some sun will try to break through the clouds at times with temperatures reaching to 70 degrees or higher by Sunday afternoon. The warming trending will continue Monday and Tuesday. We may have to watch for some strong winds and a thunderstorm chance by Wednesday.

Where is the warm weather?

If you like 70s, we could see temperatures around 70 to 75 by afternoon, but watch out for the chilly morning in the 40s near sunrise.

What about the weather for Presidents Day?

Monday will be the warmest day of the three-day weekend if you have off Presidents Day. We could see mostly cloudy skies, but temperatures could still be near 80 by afternoon. There is a small chance for a sprinkle or light shower.

When is the next significant rain or storm chance?

An upper level storm system will move across Texas Wednesday. We could see a few showers or storms, with the bigger storm chance staying a little farther north. However, we could see some strong winds during the morning or early afternoon. Gusts up to 40 to 50 mph are possible…even without any storms. It could just be a very windy day, especially near the Coast.

Are we done with cold weather?

No, but it will be very warm for most of next week. It is possible some of the cold air bottled up in the northwest part of the country could sneak in here on Thursday or Friday just ahead of the opening weekend of the rodeo.
