3 seats are up for election on the Plano ISD school board. Here are the candidates

All three of the seats on the Plano ISD Board of Trustees that are up for election on May 6 will be contested.

Two sets of three first-time candidates are running for Places 4 and 5. A trio of first-time candidates are also running for Place 7 alongside an incumbent. All 10 candidates filed for a place on the Plano ISD ballot by the deadline at 5 p.m. on Friday. To file, they had to submit an application and meet further eligibility criteria.

Seven members make up the board of trustees. They are unpaid and serve for overlapping four-year terms.

Board members do not represent specific geographic areas, meaning they are elected at large. Candidates must receive a plurality of votes, which means the candidate with the most votes wins without a runoff. The election is non-partisan.

Each year at the organizational meeting for the election of officers, the board selects a president, vice president and secretary. Current board president David Stolle was elected to Place 5 in 2019 and will not seek reelection.

Vice president Nancy Humphrey and secretary Jeri Chambers, along with board members Lauren Tyra and Angela Powell, were elected in 2021 to Place 3, Place 6, Place 1 and Place 2,respectively. They will complete their terms in 2025.

Board member Heather Wang was elected to Place 4 in 2019 and will not seek reelection. Place 7 incumbent Cody Weaver seeks reelection after first assuming the position in 2019.

Voters must be registered in Collin County by April 6. Those who wish to apply for a ballot by mail must do so by April 25. Early voting runs from April 24 through May 2.
