Strong, severe storms possible in some parts of North Texas late Sunday, early Monday

Some parts of North Texas could see severe storms and strong winds late Sunday evening, but Dallas and Fort Worth will not likely get much rainfall, according to the National Weather Service.

A thin line of storms moving eastward from the Texas-Oklahoma panhandle is expected to move through North Texas between 11 p.m. Sunday and 2 a.m. Monday, said Patricia Sánchez, a NWS meteorologist in Fort Worth. Areas northwest of Dallas-Forth Worth could see strong to severe thunderstorms and damaging wind gusts, she added.

“It is slowly going to be decaying as it moves along I-35,” Sánchez said.

Parts of Dallas County and parts of Tarrant County may get moderate rain, but storms will move “quickly” though the area, Sánchez said. The weather Monday is expected to be sunny, with highs around 75, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

In a tweet Sunday, the Texas Department of Transportation in Dallas said motorists should be aware of weather conditions.
