Fort Worth police shoot and wound armed man Saturday, officials say

A Fort Worth police officer shot and wounded a man Saturday morning who appeared ready to draw a weapon on them, police said.

A little after 7 a.m., a person in a field was yelling for help and for someone to call 911 in the 13000 block of Park Vista Boulevard, near Keller Haslet Road, according to a police call log. It added that the person was yelling for someone or something to get away from him.

Fort Worth police said multiple people called 911 and said a man was yelling in a field, walking in the street and stopping traffic. He was possibly in need of emergency assistance, police said in a news release.

Reports from 911 calls said that the man was saying “you’re under arrest” and that he was “going to pull the trigger,” police said.

North Division Patrol Officers soon arrived at the intersection of Park Vista Boulevard and Keller Haslet Road. Officers began talking with the suspect, but he did not respond and kept walking away from them, police said.

As they spoke with him, officers saw what “appeared to be a handgun” in the front waistband area of his pants, police said. They continued to walk with him, and one officer used her taser on him to subdue him.

However, it was ineffective, police said.

The man then grabbed the weapon from his waistband, and another officer “fired at least one shot” out of concern that the man was about to shoot, police said The officer struck the man, but police did not say where.

Officers administered medical aid, and paramedics took the man to a local hospital, where he is reportedly in stable condition.

Police recovered a weapon in the area where the man was arrested. They did not say whether it was a gun.

Police did not release his name or the name of the officer who shot him. The shooting was near a children’s care center in far north Fort Worth.

Fort Worth police said the investigation is ongoing.
