Challenging record highs through the weekend, but cooling relief on the way

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Houston’s high of 87 Wednesday afternoon was the warmest since it hit 92 in mid October.

Thursday will be almost an exact repeat of Wednesday with temperatures starting off in the upper 60s under a cloudy sky then warming into the mid 80s under a partly cloudy sky.

Oak pollen levels remain at extreme levels, but the relatively low wind speeds the last few days have prevented the count from skyrocketing by keeping more pollen on the trees and out of the air.

When can we get some rain to help wash away the pollen?

You may pick up a few sprinkles in the morning, but it won’t do much to help tap down the pollen count. Patchy fog and low clouds are possible again Thursday. We only have a 20% chance of rain Friday and Sunday when our next two cool fronts arrive. If you do manage to get any rain, it’ll likely be less than a tenth of an inch.

How is the weekend looking?

A weak cool front will push into Houston Friday, but it will stall our near I-10. North of the front it will be slightly cooler and drier to kick off the weekend, but south of the front it’ll be the same old stuff. Warm temperatures will return Saturday afternoon as highs leap into the mid 80s, but Sunday is looking even warmer with highs in the upper 80s. Another front arriving late Sunday will usher in lower humidity for the evening and cooler temperatures for Monday.

How cool will it get for Spring Break behind Sunday’s cool front?

Monday morning we’ll wake up to temperatures in the 50s and enjoy highs in the low 70s. The coldest morning will come Tuesday with lows in the upper 40s. Highs will again warm into the low 70s. Wednesday brings more delightful temperatures with lows in the 50s and highs in the upper 70s. It will likely warm back up above 80 late in the week ahead of another cool front that could come with higher rain chances.
